Do I Have To Use A Burial Vault For Burial?

Numerous grieving individuals choose to bury the ashes of their deceased loved ones. However, we at Sholom Chapel have observed that many people are unaware that they must purchase a burial vault.

A burial vault is an exterior container that houses the deceased's casket. Before placing the casket in the grave, a burial vault is constructed to prevent the earth above from sinking. Cemeteries emphasize grave liners or burial vaults to minimize the upkeep necessary to maintain the ground level.

Why Is A Burial Vault Necessary?

The vault shields the casket from the impact of heavy cemetery care machinery and the weight of the earth. Additionally, it keeps the dirt from sinking, increasing water resistance and preserving the cemetery's aesthetics.

As caskets eventually decompose and settle, the soil beneath them sinks and sags; therefore, vaults provide added support for the ground. Cemeteries may also need burial vaults for caskets to preserve the safety and beauty of their grounds and protect their maintenance equipment.

Even though urns settle considerably less than caskets in the ground, most cemeteries require these urns to be placed within burial vaults. The vaults are made from non-biodegradable, long-lasting materials such as concrete. You also may choose a heavy steel burial vault, the price of which will vary based on the product quality.

Depending on your needs and budget, you can choose between simple and more elaborate vaults. During the burial, most cemeteries require families to purchase vaults; nevertheless, it is essential to contact them beforehand to obtain the necessary information.
