How To Write A Condolence Letter
When people are unable to attend a funeral service or visit the grieving family personally to offer their condolences, they often write condolence letters. This is a good way to express your sympathy and indicate to the family that you are there to support them in their time of need. However, it can be a little difficult to determine what to write in a condolence letter. Here are some things you can keep in view while doing so:
- Ensure that your words are genuine and that they provide some solace to the grieving person. When a person is drowned in sorrow, even simple words can help with the healing process.
- Do not randomly write the letter. Give it some thought before you write something.
- It's also very important that you pen the letter by hand. That is far more personalized then sending one that has been typed on a computer.
- Do not write a very lengthy letter, as that can sometimes cause you to write things that may be hurtful to the recipient. It's best to maintain brevity and write a simple one instead.
- Be careful while choosing the stationery, as you do not want to write the note on flashy or colorful paper with unnecessary embellishments. Use paper of a subtle shade without any prints or colors.
- You have the option of sending flowers with your letter, but make sure that you choose appropriate ones.
- When you are writing the letter, it is best to stay away from topics that denote death or loss. Your words should indicate that you are there to support the grieving person.
- Use the right kind words at the end of the letter and make sure that they reflect genuine sympathy.
