Personalizing a Funeral with Unique Song Selections
Many families have moved away from the traditional and formal structure of funeral services. They want to add something that gives it a personal touch and also makes the process more comfortable as it helps with the grieving process.
Music is an excellent way to add a personal touch to a funeral or memorial service. It doesn’t cost you anything and yet has a way of changing the whole vibe of the funeral/memorial. However, you need to choose the right song to get the result you want. Here are some tips on choosing the right song to personalize a funeral:
- Use The Decedent’s Favorite Band: Playing songs that the deceased enjoyed is a great way to add a personal touch to the funeral. Compile a list of songs from artists that the decedent loved and played often.
- Choose A Song That Brings Back Memories: Choose songs that bring back memories for the deceased's loved ones. For example, choose music that they regularly sang or danced to. You could choose something that played during their wedding, or another special event. This will help set the tone for the service, and will hopefully encourage people to share their special experiences with the deceased during the service.
- The Song Should Convey The Right Message: The lyrics of the song should have a deeper meaning and should be appropriate to play during the funeral. It isn’t necessary to choose a sad or slow song, but avoid using ones with offensive lyrics or songs that have a party beat to them; this may upset other family members.
While choosing any song or music, it is important that you use your discretion in terms of what is appropriate and what isn’t, for the occasion.
