Memorial Ideas for Veterans
People who were an active part of military service or served in the armed forces deserve a beautiful memorial service. They deserve recognition, honor, and respect, which is why memorial services must be planned carefully. At Gallagher Funeral Home, we have helped organize funerals for several veterans in the past and understand what’s involved in their memorial services. Here’s a look at some memorial ideas:
1. Highlight Their Military Career
Military is a big aspect of a veteran’s life so it’s a good idea to highlight their achievements during a memorial service. You can show pictures of when they got into basics training or military-based schools. You can then show their medals, promotions, awards, and other such achievements. It’s also a good idea to compile a short introduction to their entire military career so people are aware what the veteran had done during their time in service.
2. Highlight Their Personal Life
Showcasing just the military aspect of a person’s life paints an incomplete picture. We recommend providing a few highlights of the veteran’s personal life as well. This can include their educational milestones, marriage, children, grandchildren, and even candid moments that showcase the human behind the soldier.
3. Two Different Services
Some families choose to have two different ceremonies; on that involves all of the military flair and includes members from units, comrades, superior officers, etc. They then arrange a more private memorial service that involves close family and friends. This allows loved ones to express their grief freely and gain solace.
You can ask attendees to bring flags and other patriotic symbols to showcase their support for veterans and the deceased individual. This will help add a special meaning to the ceremony.
