Modern Ways to Memorialize a Loved One

Memorializing is a way to honor a deceased loved one and offer solace to those left behind. It is a personal step because different people draw comfort from different things. At Gallagher Funeral Home, we have seen grieving family members come up with unique and beautiful ways to remember their loved ones. Here’s a list of some modern ways to memorialize a lost relative or friend:

1. Plant a Tree

Planting a tree is perhaps the most poignant way to memorialize someone because you are planting a living, growing entity in their honor. The tree will be around for decades, if not centuries and will always be a symbol of healing. It helps that planting trees also helps the environment so you are doing something good in their name.

2. Memorial Jewelry

Memorial jewelry isn't exactly a modern concept but it is still very popular. A small pendant with a lock of hair or a ring with ashes can be a great representation of a loved one. The jewelry will last for a lifetime and continue to offer comfort to people who wear it.

3. Add a Bench

Adding a bench is a good choice for people who were closely attached to the deceased individual. The bench will become a physical representation of a loved one and help you heal. You can sit on it and feel like you’re in their company, which offers a great deal of comfort. Benches can be installed in public parks or even in your own backyard. Public benches are great because they will offer respite to tired strangers as well.
